From July 22nd to 27th 2019 the La Spezia International Jazz Festival , directed by Maestro Antonio Ciacca and promoted by the Liguria Region, Comune of La Spezia, Carispezia Foundation, returns Municipality of Lerici, Municipality of Porto Venere, Municipality of Aulla and the non-profit Concert Society with the support of the Riviere di Liguria Chamber of Commerce.
The 51st edition is dedicated to some special occasions : the 120 years of the birth of Duke Ellington, the 100 years since the birth of Nat King Cole and the 80 years of the Blue Note. Alongside this, other artistic ideas such as the tribute to the legendary Charle Mingus, 40 years after his death.
The festival will also be developed this year on two lines. Next to the concerts that will take place in La Spezia, Aulla, Lerici and Porto Venere , we confirm the part related to teaching with master classes, workshops and seminars open to young musicians from around the world. The didactic part will expand from the well-established partnership with the City College of New York to the Tri C Jazz Festival and Summer camp in Cleveland (Ohio). The International Jazz seminars will be held by City College teachers and former students from the prestigious The Jiulliard School in New York. In addition, the Tiberio Nicola Award (dedicated to Tiberio Nicola, founder of the festival) will be held within the 51st edition, aimed at young musicians who will have the opportunity to compare and highlight an important stage.
